Foreword

The International e-Conference on Agricultural BioSciences 2008 (IeCAB 2008) held from June 2 - 16, 2008 is unique in that participants will exhibit their presentations and interact entirely electronically, i.e. on the internet. One major reason behind the conception of the e-conference is a desire to reduce the costs of participation, and thereby increase the number of participants from developing countries. Participants incur no expenses for transportation, hotel accommodation, per diem, visa, etc since the conference can be attended from the office, home or any other place with internet access.

The 1st e-Conference has been received very positively with numerous high quality presentations being entered from all continents. In addition to publishing the abstracts online, participants have an opportunity to electronically exhibit a poster and to publish full papers in the Journal of Applied Biosciences (ISSN 1997-5902).

This publication comprises Volume 1 of the Book of Abstracts submitted for the 1st e-Conference (IeCAB 2008). A weblink to Volume 2 with additional abstracts will be added once their review is finalized. All full papers will be published in a special volume of the Journal of Applied Biosciences to be issued in July-August 2008. Links to all outputs of this e-conference can be accessed at http://www.e-conference.elewa.org/agriculture.
